The Daughters of Zeus - Daughter of Earth and Sky Book Two (Spoilers)

August 29, 2016

Hi lovelies,

Here is the review to follow up my last book. My most recent read is  Daughter of Earth and Sky which is Book 2 in the The Daughters of Zeus series by Kaitlin Bevis.

The synopsis:
Some vows can never be broken, especially when you’ve recently found out you’re a goddess. In the flick of a eyelash Persephone has gone from being a high school junior in Athens, Georgia to the wife of Hades, god of the Underworld.

Under his platonic protection, she’s waiting for springtime, when Boreas, the sinister god of winter, will stop stalking her. But even Hades can’t keep Boreas and his minions from threatening her. Finally she escaped back to the world of the living. Maybe she can just go back to normal—and forget that she’s fallen in love with Hades.

She’s wrong. Thanatos—a friend from the Underworld, has betrayed her. Persephone can't tell anyone about Thanatos' betrayal, and it drives a wedge between her and Hades. And then there’s Aphrodite, the gorgeous goddess who was born among the ocean waves with more charm than she can control. Persephone’s dearest ally, Melissa, is furious and jealous when Aphrodite starts winning Persephone’s friendship. Persephone turns to a human boy for friendship. But will their relationship put him in danger?Persephone must choose between her human life and her responsibilities as a goddess. If she doesn't, she could lose that life and Hades, too.

But either way, she may not survive her father’s schemes. After all, she’s Zeus’s daughter.

My thoughts: First of all let me just say I started this book around 9:00 and finished it at 23:00 the same day,  I couldn't put the book down. I'm already onto the third and last book of the series, but that's for another review! This book was a huge improvement on the last in my opinion and we say hello to one new character, say bye to a well known one and get to know Joel a little better.

So in the last book Persephone charmed Thanatos which can't be achieved unless a god has sworn fealty to another god. This means that Thanatos is a traitor and is working with Zeus. He tricked Persephone into promising not to tell anyone and off course - Gods cannot lie. So we start this book with Persephone being cursed with this promise, she wants nothing more than to tell Hades that his best friend is a traitor but she can't... As if this isn't bad enough she is trying to balance Underworld duties with school.

Persephone has a dream about a girl stood in the ocean. Her and Hades investigate this dream and find none other that Aphrodite! She's a gorgeous goddess hand crafted by Zeus to wreak havoc on earth. However, Persephone doesn't want to kill this threat, instead she teaches her how to control her powers and gives her a roof over her head. In a nutshell Persephone is tortured by Thanatos and his reapers until Hades finds out and kills everyone who dare lay a finger on his wife. Once he is out of the picture they set out looking for Zeus, only to find out he's a lot closer than they would have liked.

In this book Persephone grows close to Joel - A human who she goes to school with. So close in fact that a few cheeky kisses take place. But, is Joel as perfect as he comes across or is there something more sinister than meet the eye? The most annoying thing throughout this book is that because of Persephone's secret which she cannot tell Hades it drives them apart. Rather than thinking of ways to tell him, she tells Hades to stay in the Underworld (in order to protect it) and it drives them apart. Hades is still my favourite character even if he doesn't listen to her throughout the book - I'm practically in love with his character!

The ending is amazing, another cliff hanger which makes your jaw drop and you'll be scrambling to the stores to get the third book. Trust me, you won't want to miss it!
