Films I watched in March

March 30, 2017

Hello lovelies, here is a collection of the films I watched this month along with a brief synopsis and my thoughts:

No Escape (2015)
"In their new overseas home, an  American family soon finds themselves caught in the middle of a coup, and they frantically look for a safe escape from an environment where foreigners are being immediately executed."

This was a great film to start the month off. A riot starts where all Americans/Foreigners are being executed. The film follows one family who frantically try to escape by jumping off of buildings etc to escape the riots. This film kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, myself and my family were so nervous watching it, an amazing film from start to finish.
My rating:

Cinderella (2015)
"When her father unexpectedly passes away, young Ella finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother and her scheming step-sisters. Never one to give up hope, Ella's fortunes begin to change after meeting a dashing stranger."

This is a remake of the classic Disney film. Ella's mother gets sick and dies, a short time after her father meets another woman and dies on a trip leaving Ella with an awful step-mother. It isn't one of the best remakes I have seen and there are not many well known faces however it was a very uplifting movie!
My rating:

The Witch (2015)
"A family in 1630s New England is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession."

This film is listed under horror and mystery but there was no element of horror about it. Yes, there were some weird bits but not one part of this film made me scared. The film is so dark a lot of the scenes cannot be seen you find yourself just looking at shadows. All in all, an hour and a half of my life that I won't be getting back.

My rating:

Room (2015)
"A mother and her 5 year old son, who have been held captive for 7 years, finally escape and gain freedom from their captor, but escape to a dramatic homecoming and have to deal with the pressures of the real world in this powerful and suspenseful Drama."

This film is truly amazing. A woman is taken captive by rapist and has a child. When the child turns five she is set on escaping after 7 years of confinement. She hatches several plans until finally one works, her son escapes and saves her. The rest of the film follows their journey after they go 'home'. It's hard since the little boy (Jack) has only ever known the inside of a room and has to get used to the light, the germs and everything in the environment. It's a long film but well worth it, plenty of twists and turns and the suspense was killing me.

My rating:

She's Funny That Way (2014)
"On the set of a playwright's new project, a love triangle forms between his wife, her ex-lover and the call girl-turned-actress cast in the production."

This is a comedy with a couple of well known actors such as Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston. A prostitute is given a chance at her dream career as an actress but things start to get complicated when it turns out everyone is 'at it' with each other. There are funny parts, but it isn't a film which will have you belly laughing.

My rating:

Beauty and the Beast (2017)
"The adaptation of the fairy tale about a monstrous-looking prince and a young woman who fall in love."

Gosh I have been so excited for this film and it definitely didn't disappoint! I absolutely loved it, they included all our favourite songs from the animated film and there were some new songs which just worked brilliantly. I love that this film is the first of Disney's to include a gay character. After getting home I couldn't stop singing it was an amazing film, I dare say I enjoyed it more than the original. I must admit, if Belle isn't going to go there with Gaston, I will!

My rating:

Have you watched any of these films? If so, what were your thoughts? Thank you for reading, Lauren x

  7. Oh my gosh, me and my housemates watched The Witch last week, after hearing nothing but good reviews. It was awful! I'm easily scared and I didn't even jump once, what a rubbish film. It did have Chris Finch from The Office in it though, so every cloud has a silver lining I s'pose haha. x

  8. I loved Room! It's such a good film but at the same time it's so emotional that it's not something I'm running to go back and re-watch.
